My Own Seed Starting Mix
I use red wiggler worm castings, perlite, and mix in some seed starting mix or peat moss.
The red wiggler worm castings I think help retain moisture, and yet drains well when mixed with the perlite and seed starting mix, or peat moss. The seed starting mix that I bought is mostly vermiculite, and peat moss. I don't like it as well as my own mixture, once I put my mix in the seed trays I wet the my seed mix with a fine mist of water, in this photo I filled 3 of the seed trays with just the store bought seed mix, and the rest with my red wiggler worm mix, you can see in the photo how the water sits on top of the store bought mix, and my red wiggler worm mix has soaked up the water, it will help keep the seedlings from getting dried out, or to wet. Don't forget the worm castings has all those good things in it to give the seedlings a healthy start.
